In a word: NAMM.
For those outside of the music industry the word or acronym NAMM really wouldn’t mean much. NAMM stands for the National Association of Music Merchants. To most musicians that are beyond the hobbyist level it is more of a verb or very descriptive noun. It is the twice a year gathering of manufacturers to show off their new goods to sell to musicians of all sorts.
The crowds tend to big. Lots of people hear about NAMM and want to go so they can meet some of their favorite artists – the super players or even the famous players. It’s because the manufacturers endorse players that use their product to heighten awareness. Yours truly has been a performer many a time at NAMM, not this year however. I’m going for fun and to see what new goodies lie in wait.
What that means is, I’ve got to get to today’s song as I have to get in the car and get out of here. Without further ado I give you Billy Squire and his tune Rock Me Tonite. Certainly something that a whole lot of people will be thinking today as they’re seeing so many musician’s playing and trying out gear. The after-parties tend to have some really great performances, people getting rocked!
While some of the sounds in the song feel dated, they still seem to work great. Billy obviously had a real knack for creating a great song. Lots of little ear candy pieces. Whomever his producer was had a very crafty way of making Billy’s songs fantastically interesting. It doesn’t hurt that he had a great sense of chords and melody mixed with a grooving feel.
That’s all I got to say about it at the moment. If you don’t have any Billy Squire, you are missing out. Get thee to iTunes or Amazon now and pick it up.
