It’s the day after Thanksgiving in the U.S. For the consumer oriented mind and the mad dash known as Christmas shopping it means a massive day for spending money. Did someone forget to tell people there is apparently a problem in the economy? Or are we under a Derren Brown spell? Hard to figure sometimes.
I had a good Thanksgiving. An excellent meal, especially after learning about brining a turkey for a day or two ahead of time. Of course there are now a ton of leftovers and it will be turkey for a couple of weeks. Maybe I’ll donate it to some friends or something.
As for the shopping. I’ve never been one to do a lot of shopping. That’s not gonna change this year. As cutting edge as I am for a lot of things, shopping isn’t one of them. I admire how so many people get worked up in a frenzy to awake at 4 a.m. to hit a shopping mall, wait in queue and pick up stuff. Makes me wonder if my buddy Grant ever got his life down to 600 things. Seems he hasn’t updated his blog in quite some time. Though he has moved from the location that was stuffed to the brim with things.
But it’s the aspect of the Banks, the “bailout”, and the economy that has me thinking that the bankers, the politicians and credit card peeps are acting like the characters in this tune by Steve Miller. Taking money they don’t got. Then hoarding it and acting like they don’t have it.
Of course I’m diggin on the cool vibe of Steve’s song. It’s what is known as a classic. A moving guitar rhythm, a recognizable drum fill to open the song, a singable melody, a full on story about two cats on the the run, tension and release. It’s all in there.
Enjoy yourself, whatever your endeavors are today. May you find your money and get out on the run. Pick up some Steve Miller by legal means.
