Yesterday I was like a feather floating along in a gentle breeze. I had been asked to go see a movie and start writing a song with my friend Aubrey. We had been meaning to write a song for a while and finally made the time. We also had meant to see Wolverine on saturday but an all night jam session killed that plan. Thus we went to see Wolverine yesterday. Afterwards we had a bite to eat at the Subway of mexican food, Chipotle – oh, wait… Chipotle actually has quality food, thus I shouldn’t insult it by calling it the Subway of mexican food.
From there we took some time to start writing a song. We scratched out some lyrics and ideas for the chorus and worked on shaping it into it’s early rough form. Then she got a text about going to see a friend of ours playing at the Roxy, then another friend of hers playing at Universal Bar & Grill. She asked, do you want to go? I said sure, and off we went to take a break from writing to catch a couple of acts playing at two different venues.
I ran into some friends at Universal Bar & Grill. That was funny.
After the second show we went back to the writing den had a drink of creamed rum and vodka or something, then continued to add more ideas to the song. Around midnight I needed to head out as I got a phone call from my buddy Robert asking if I could help him with a mix on a video clip.
Off to Ra Audio studio I went after saying goodnight to Aubrey. Robert had a video clip involving a former American Idol and a major auto manufacturer. Dig in and get to work I did. Fixing the sync and then delving into the mix. By 3 a.m. it was finished and home I came.
Whew, what a day.
There’s a song in my library by a famous band from the past. It’s called Ride the Wild Wind and you’re likely listening to it right now if you’re reading this from Single of the Day or via my blog page on jodywhitesides.com but not via RSS. Anyway, the other night while at the all night jam that was happening at Randy Coleman’s abode, I was asked my top three desert island top three bands that I would have to have with me for the rest of time. One of those bands I mentioned was Queen. That instantly endeared me to Randy – apparently Queen is one of his favs. And why not, Freddie was one of the, and I mean THE greatest rock singers ever. Not to mention that the boys could come up with some seriously cool melodies and songs.
I didn’t get to experience Queen first hand, not old enough, but I can live vicariously thru their recordings and the stories that I end up hearing about them. I did get to see Queen with Paul Rogers, but I’m pretty darn sure that it was nothing in comparison to the likes of Freddie.
Either way, riding the wild wind is how I approached my day yesterday and it was a good change of pace. It’s the kind of thing where I actually feel like I might need a vacation from the day. 🙂
I’ve got to going on my day today. So if you don’t have any Queen, what the hell is wrong with you? Where else can you get such a huge variety of campy and melodic music with such awesome prowess? You can’t. Get the to your local store and buy it now, or hop on over to iTunes or Amazon and snag it now! Do not pass go.
