It was a lazy morning today. I took a while to get up. Must have been the late night last night. I ended up upgrading my lappy from Leopard to Snow Leopard late yesterday. The main thing holding me back was my printer. I have an original Apple Laserwriter 4/600. It has been in my possession since 1994. It is a tank of a printer. Still prints great black and white. The issue is that Apple has finally removed support for it’s own printer in the upgrade to Snow Leopard. Rather disappointing. I can’t say that the printer is worthless. It still works perfectly. I haven’t made the decision to sell it or give it away. There is the possibility that I could pick up an older Mac Mini and use it as a print server or something. But the likeliness of that is slim. It’s cheaper for me to pick up a color laser printer at this point. The 4/600 is the oldest piece of tech that I have. It’s served me well for a long time.
I have noticed that my lappy is a bit more snappy now that I’ve got Snow Leopard running. Also several of the programs I’ve got are already running in 64 bit. I could probably run the OS in 64 bit to. However, I’ll leave it be for the time being. The main reason for the upgrade is that I found my fax machine can serve as a printer for the time being. When the ink runs out on it, I’ll go grab a new color laser printer and likely donate the fax machine.
The same can be true for cars. If you take good care of them, they’ll run for a long time. I’m not overly anal about my cars, but I do like to take care of them. Today I’m going to spend time changing oil, spark plugs and air filter. I’m going to order a fuel filter and change that next week too. I like when I fire it up after a minor tuneup and it runs smoother. Can’t beat that.
Which is why I’m rolling with a tune called I’m In Love With My Car. Not that I’m in love with mine, but I do take good care of it. A fun song by the Drummer Roger Taylor. All about the obsession with the motored machine. Makes me want to get up and go rev the engine and take off on a trip. Oh wait. I am doing exactly that this afternoon. Hmmm. Enjoy the romp from the musical past with one of the greatest bands ever. I’m off.
