There is one thing that I’m appreciating about having an agent. It’s the new connections that I’m making. Last night was a group dinner that was arranged by her assistant. A group dinner with a bunch of game and sound types relaxing after a day at E3. I got to meet almost the entire table. There were a few people that ducked out early where it was a brief hi & bye. I did get to chat with one of the arrangers for Dance with the Stars, who also worked on Lord of the Rings. Very unassuming and cool dude. Also got to meet the composer who’s scores I’m singing on tomorrow. Happy and very humble chap. Man I dig when people are not constantly attempting to put stuff in the face. There was on composer though who was pretty funny in that he was deprecating himself about everything, except that he was a decent composer. And finally another composer who my agent has been talking about for a while. He reminds me of my friend Jesse in his demeanor, only a little bit more sarcastic.
Nothing like being put on the spot by someone at the table. I had literally put my first few bites of food in my mouth when I was asked to sing to the entire table. Roughly 16 people. Mind you, not the first time I’ve been put on the spot to sing when I’ve had a mouth full of food. I launched into mimmicing what was on the radio: I Want You To Want Me. Half a verse and a chorus later, the whole table cheered. Fun. It’s a great song. I’m actually in the midst of recording a cover of it. Vastly different from the original.
Today, I’ll be spending time cleaning up a few loose ends on a couple of songs that I’m working on. Then I need to spend some time on the songs I’ll be singing tomorrow, making sure I’ve got them all together. After that I’ll likely start a track for this game cue I’ve been asked for. Oh and I need to start thinking about another track to start with the new co-writer that called me a couple of days ago. So much writing, so little time.
Because I was thumped into singing I Want You To Want Me last night I think it appropriate to roll with it today. I really like the desire that comes from such a simple phrase. If there is anything in the world we all have a need for is to have someone else that we like to want us. It’s a wonderful feeling to have someone say that they want you. No question about it.
While it’s extremely difficult to match the awesomeness of what Cheap Trick created, I think it can be done. One thing that will be hard to deal with is the perfection of Robin Zander’s ability to sing. I mentioned it to someone last night that I’ve never heard him sing an off note. I’ve seen them a few times live and they always rocked it hard. In fact, I believe I may have mentioned it here on Single of the Day once before that THE absolute loudest band I’ve ever heard live is Cheap Trick. In a club in Vegas a few years back. Even with my ear plugs in, I still left that room with my ears ringing. Fucking loud.
Raise your hand and comment if you really think this song sucks. I’ll flame you in an instant.
