Welcome to the Sunday’s Child edition. I was introduced to Travis Howard by an ex-girlfriend. She got me to head out to Molly Malones one night for a country night. She was, and I’m sure she still is, into all kinds of music including Country. For me, I like a lot of stuff, but I usually have to be forced to hear something good before I’ll appreciate it, it won’t matter the genre, if its damn good, I’ll like it. The point is, I don’t normally search out Country music. Anyway, althought I didn’t outwardly look like I enjoyed the show, I actually did. I’m just not easily phased by things, something I’m still working on changing.
I distinctly remember Travis and one other performer who I’ll likely showcase here in the near future. Since that first show, we ended up going to a couple of Travis’ shows around town (hell I even went to one after she moved away). One thing I can say is that Travis always seems to be having a lot of fun on stage. I don’t know if it’s because he’s always drinking or if he just loves the craft. He is fun to watch. I also think that the appeal he has for me is that he’s not hard core country. He’s much more rock infused country with a pop flavor. Much like Rascal Flatts, but without the overdose on production trickery. I’ve heard that Travis has been in a movie or two and has had some his songs cut or co-written with some bigger country acts. So he may well be doing extremely well for all I know. However, if that’s the case: Why isn’t he on iTunes?!?
I realize that this song is mostly his least Country sounding song on the CD that I have. He does talk about his small town upbringing in the lyrics though, that’s very country to do. How would I know? Well, I recently wrote a Country song myself with a Nashville writer. At some point, I may post it here as it turned out pretty darn cool for a demo. One thing though, how many of us truly regret things we’ve done? I know I’ve got one or two things, but for the most part I’ve done things as I saw fit. As I said though there are one or two things I would love to go back and change. If I did that I’m not sure I’d be where I am now, and I don’t know if it would be better or worse. As Travis says, I’ve got to learn to live with it.
Unfortunately when it comes to Travis, I haven’t a clue how you can get your hands on this song. As it doesn’t appear on his website. What a silly concept in this day and age. Anyway, visit Travis’ website and shoot him an e-mail. Ask him, what the hell? Why can’t I buy your music on iTunes or even your CD. I’m sure he’ll get a kick out of it. Tell him Jody Whitesides sent ya. Once he gets up off the floor from laughing that I sent you, he’ll probably scratch his head and wonder who the hell I am. You might be able to buy a CD directly from him.
** By the way, the cover art that I have here is also not the cover art of the CD. I don’t have a scanner, and he doesn’t have this CD anywhere that I could find on the web. The cover art is from a more current EP that he is pushing. You should check that out as well.
Just go to his website travishoward.com and you can purchase the CD and other merchandise right from his webite (via PayPal)or you can shoot him an email at holler@travishoward.com. Glad to see I left some influence on you there Jody 🙂
