I’ve been sporting a new hair cut for a couple of weeks now. It’s a different look that’s for sure. I went from a longer, hair in the face pretty much black, to less than a half inch long (and shorter) and blonde. I didn’t really tell anyone I was gonna do it. I told a couple of close friends and that was about it. The day I did it I ended up going to a movie with a friend that night who when I opened the door nearly fell back a few feet. I don’t think he was expecting to see me as I was. In fact, he didn’t recognize me. Such has been the case for pretty much everyone who knows me and hadn’t heard the news.
Last night I was at a class that I’ve been taking thru a manager friend of mine. I didn’t know he’d be there, he generally isn’t. He hadn’t seen the hair cut yet, but had heard about it. I’m shooting new pictures with him on saturday. But the look on his face as he walked out of his office door, in the words of MasterCard – Priceless. It’s the same look I’ve gotten from nearly everyone. A deer in the headlights as if they’ve been hit by a truck and it didn’t kill them.
Actually I’ve even got that from people who are meeting for the first time and only know me from the pictures of me on the net and such. It’s funny how something so little like hair can cause such a stir. The strangest question ends up being something like aren’t you afraid of what you did? The answer is no, it’s only hair and it grows back.
Have you ever done something that doesn’t seem all that significant and yet everyone in your world suddenly looks at you like you’re insane, or maybe that you’re an entirely new person? What did you do?
It could be said that I’m living with the aftershock of what I’ve done or rather let be done to my “look”. Along with that change in hair came a second tattoo. I had always meant to get two to start, however the place I went for my first tattoo ripped me and sadly they came recommended by a great friend. I finally made the time to get the second one. Now I’ve got one on each shoulder. Which completes the balance I wanted from the get go. Very similar in nature but for two completely different things.
That’s what brings me to today’s pick by Van Halen. It’s about reacting or rather living with the aftershock of decisions. Seems I’m on a kick of old rock this week. Guess I’ve been in need of a rock fix after all the punk music I’ve been working on as of late, as well as some weird cues. The great thing is, a lot of this is coming to a close and I’m looking forward to the next things coming up.
Of course there’s a debate by die hard Van Halen fans as to which singer Van Halen had that was their best. I’m actually not one to debate it, Dave and Sammy both have great songs with the boys. Plus I wasn’t really there at the get go so I’m only a historical type of fan. Though I do remember that my first Van Halen CD was a Sammy one when I was in school. I think the one detour they made was going with Gary. A very capable singer, but not a good match for them.
One thing you can never fault Eddie with is his guitar playing. The man knows the instrument and is very much the legend he should be. He played the shit out of the instrument. Took it places that others never did. It’s strange how guitar playing isn’t viewed as the be all end all that it was revered to be when Eddie was in his hey day. I think he was the last guitar god to push the envelope in terms of stretching the instrument sound wise purely via effects and getting it out on a mass commercial level. That’s not to say it isn’t still going on. Unfortunately very few are still listening and making a stink about it.
Got your rock fix now? Don’t own this tune? Go Get it! Now!
maybe the look is people trying to come up with something to say without being insulting
There is always that possibility. 🙂
