Today will be a roadtrip to a little town known as El Cajon. That’s right boys and girls, homie is heading to the Taylor guitar factory. Gonna spend a little time down there to get some work done on the guitar and help my friend Femke with her newly gotten endorsement. So I won’t really be doing a random drive this week as this is replacing it. Besides, there’s the superbowl to consider as well. No I’m not a football nut, but it’s always fun to get together with friends to eat, drink, and watch the festivities.
Since I’m heading to my mecca of acoustic guitars, I have to pull up an acoustic tune. Preston Reed comes to mind for his acoustic brilliance. Does he play a Taylor? I don’t know, if not, he should be. 🙂 I’ve featured Preston here before. With a much more uptempo number. This one is a bit more mellow, but because there isn’t a major rush today with this trip, it’s more for fun, I’d rather feel mellow about it.
There’s a great vibe going on here with the melody and how it works over his note choices. It almost sounds like it could be a baritone guitar with that extra low string and how it’s tuned. Though I’m pretty sure it’s only an alternate tuning.
It’s a sexy tune isn’t it? Probably why he named it Mermaid Eyes. ‘Cause mermaids are supposed to be dangerously beautiful right?
Go get Preston. Do it now!
Very cool tune – the kind you feel like hearing while you’re sipping a glass of wine near a fireplace on a cold winter day. Definitely has some JT aspect to it. It’s one thing to strum an acoustic guitar in the background of a rock song, but it’s quite another to hear something clear and pristine like this. Nice work.
