I had a good meeting this morning. Where? Fox Studios. The bonus of living in the Los Angeles area is that you never know who you’re going to meet when you’re out and about. I know I’ve mentioned the idea of doing cues for Fox Sports already. I was under the impression that I’d be going in today for picking up a contract to be an official composer. However, things changed. That didn’t stop it from being a good meeting.
I fortunately brought in two cues with me to present. During the course of the meeting my contact determined that he loved the first cue. Loved it so much that he wanted to present it for a meeting later in the afternoon where they were determining the theme for the NFL shows this coming season. Imagine my shock and excitement as I’m sitting there hearing how much he likes the cue then wants to consider it for a theme song position. That’s huge!
The second cue he also loved but had mixed feelings about. He liked the cue and the music, but wasn’t sure it fit the sports he normally oversees. He did think that it would be perfect for soccer (I apologize to all the rest of the world that calls it football). So if Fox doesn’t end up using it, there’s always the possibility that I could contact TV broadcasters in Europe and attempt to present the cue to them for their premier sport. We’ll see.
Thus I’m feeling a bit bold and a tad experimental today.
That leads me to my choice for today. The ethereal and strange tune known as Saviour by a group called Alien Skin. Think about that for a moment – Alien Skin. Most people get visions of little green or odd shaped human like creatures whenever the word alien is used. So of course when the project name came across my desk I first thought of the X-Files. I’m not sure why. I did. The good thing is, the music actually lends itself to the name of the project.
That is actually pure marketing genius. When the music fits the name under which it is created. That’s not to say great music can’t have a totally unrelated name. It can, it happens all the time. I feel like it’s a double added bonus when all aspects of the project and the music fit together. Such is Alien Skin and their song Saviour.
Should I end up getting the spot for my cue as a theme song, that would probably be a bit of a life saver for me. Or better yet a life enhancer that can help me launch other things I’ve been working so diligently on. We shall see.
in the meantime, explore the textures that George Pappas and his Alien Skin produces. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Do get it legally. It will make you feel better. It will make George feel good, and it will help me feel great!
A few words of thanks for your comments on ‘Saviour’ and Alien Skin. It is greatly appreciated !!
kind regards, and greetings from Australia
