There’s something that I don’t understand in some people. I will get asked to help them get something in terms of a piece of musical gear. Usually it’s like a dire need and it’s something that they want right now. Thus when I say ok, I’m usually ready to jump and get the purchase as soon as they give me the money. Such was the case yesterday where I was asked to help a friend of a friend. They came to me, got me the money (I’ve learned to never buy something until someone has given me the money), then after I made the necessary call, I got informed that they weren’t sure. Damn good thing I didn’t actually make the purchase.
What confused them was the fact they’d have to pay shipping & tax.
Well duh, I’m not a store. I’m certainly not going to pay someone’s shipping and tax when I’m giving them the deal I’m getting and not taking any kind of cut. Which is probably why people like it when I can get them something. I like to help, but I’m not going to help when it comes at an expense to me other than making a phone call. Not worth it.
Which brings me to my choice today. It’s a song by what is now a classic hard rock band otherwise known as Van Halen. Everybody Wants Some!! Yup. This is true. Everybody does want something somewhere. The thing that gets this song rolling is the jungle beat being laid down by Alex. Then you’ve got the crazy guitar licks at what must be some sort of enormous volumes. Of course it could be that Eddie made strong use of power soaks to get that sound (if you ever do some research you’ll understand). But it really sounds like it’s sheer volume that is assaulting the mics for the guitars. There’s a smattering of bass and of course Diamond Dave’s standard vocal stylings. It’s a classic mix that propels.
It’s always great to get what you want, but make up your damn mind eh? Go get some Van Halen.
Isn’t that the truth! I have often considered hanging a sign on my door that says “nothing beyond this point is free”.
