There’s always a moment in one’s life where we have a moment and say to yourself “Oh shit.” You realize that there is something that you might do and be considered awesomely stupid or genuinely cool.
I can think of many for me. Generally I most likely play it way too cool. Rarely do I get over excited about anything. There have been a few moments where I did something awesomely stupid. Last saturday night was one of those moments where I was cruising along having fun with some friends way late into the night. Sunday came round and I decided to continue on with the previous evenings concept.
It was fun to do. The end result did have several friends saying it was hilarious. But making it public for the world was probably not the most smart thing to do. I’m going to give it until Sunday before I actually pull it down where it won’t be so public anymore.
Thinking of Cool, I have to roll with a tune by Joe Satriani called Cool #9. I wonder if it is a takeoff of Ice Nine which would be one of his older tunes that references a famous book. If there is one thing about Joe it’s that he is highly musical despite all the technique and technical aspects to his playing.
That’s the big thing I love about his playing. It’s extremely unique. It’s so… Him. I have a friend who is a guitar playing buddy that unfortunately is somehow becoming a complete copy. While it’s great to have an influence, it’s rather odd to become a clone. I’m sure there are many people that would love to be a clone of Joe. His chops, his understanding of theory, his fluidity, it’s zen masterful.
Do go explore his catalog. You won’t regret it.
