One thing that is a bit of an adventure to do now and then is to visit with people who taught you. Today is a crazy day in terms of scheduling for me. I dropped Dorian off at the vet for a surgery. Then it’s off to Hollywood to sit in on a music supervision seminar and then more time collating data for all the music I’ve done in my life (and it’s a lot), followed by another seminar tonight about Stress and the Creative mind – I don’t stress much, but I find it educational to learn how and why other people stress and what is a good way to get rid of it.
I know that when I’m at the music supervision seminar I’ll run into teachers that helped me become the musician that I am. One thing I know is that I’m not easy to forget. For reasons unknown to me I leave a pretty indelible mark on those around me. I haven’t figured that one out yet.
Regardless, I know it will be fun to see the halls I used to stomp around in thinking I would rise to the top of the musical heap. As it’s said, the more things change, the more they stay the same.
I think the classic song for most students of opposite sex to the teach would have to be Van Halen’s hot for teacher. Unfortunately in music there aren’t a lot of female teachers. There’s none in my past that I would say that I was hot for either. Especially since all my teachers were male. But I still think Hot for Teacher is the right song for today. Go figure.
Thumping drums, shreddin guitars, an over the top vocalist singing about what is taboo, what was taboo and yet still goes on. The crazy thing is it’s an uneven street, if a male teacher hooks up with a female student the book will get thrown at him and put him away for a long time. If it’s a female teacher hooking up with a male student, she’ll get in trouble, but not nearly as much – why?
Regardless, Van Halen summed it up very well in Hot For Teacher. If you don’t got it, go get it!
