Music has a great ability to express a feeling that have inside us. We all have a large array of feelings and there’s a pretty large array of ways for music to express that. That’s one of the bonuses of music. One would think that those who write and create music would also have a great penchant for communication with others. Most of the time it’s probably pretty true. However, there are times when even the best musical creators can have trouble communicating with others especially when the care about them.
I’m learning that one thing many of us in this world need is to feel important to someone else. To be thought of as a necessity. One of the worst feelings to have is to not have that from someone you care about. Meaning that someone else that you care about does not feel you’re important, or at the very least isn’t expressing how you’re important (if you are).
As part of the ebb and flow of things in life, this is a hard one to communicate. Especially when a rift happens between you and someone you care about. People will get into a pattern and then the rift can grow bigger. The idea is to realize the rift and learn how to bridge it before it goes insurmountable.
Important is how I feel about music. It’s been the life and soul of everything I do. It’s hard to separate me from it. I’m fairly certain that even for non musicians it’s tough to go a day without music. Music is an important piece to many people’s lives, not just the people that create it. We can often find the answers to life in music. Or rather the answer to a question in life. That answer could be a party, a road trip, a moment, a feeling, a thought, an action, anything really.
Today I’m realizing that I co-wrote a song with my friend Johnny Elkins that is pretty much all about the concept of being happy when you’re around someone. Simply enough the song is called: Happy When I’m With You. It’s overly bubbly and might even come off as a little strange to sing such a thing. But when you’re unsure of things and maybe a little down, it’s good to have something to turn to and say, yeah, you know, I’m happy when I’m around that person.
May your day turn around and end better because of hearing a cheerful song!
