Under the wire. A little phrase that tends to mean something got done in a nick of time. Or rather before a deadline. The question is, why does wire mean deadline and why would you be under it? Something to ponder. I guess this post would be getting made under the wire. Maybe slightly over the wire by the time it actually gets published. Oh well.
Seems like so many things need to be tackled and sometimes one or two things get left to wayside. Wow, look at all the cliches I’m tossing out. I wonder how many cliches I can get out in a post?
Despite waking at the crack of dawn, I forced myself to steal a few more zzzzzzs – you know, count more sheep. I finally got up on the right side of the bed and pumped some iron. Followed it up with a hop in the shower. Then came the usual as a breakfast special, no wait, I lied. It was different this morning, toast with peanut butter and raspberry jam and a little grapefruit juice to knock it back with.
A battery of text messages, emails, and IM’s kicked off the morning portion behind breakfast. A trip to the studio and more being an audio slave occurred. Nah, not audio slave, rather a tweaker. Tweaking mixes on a project that is taking about three times longer than it should have. Oh well. It’s getting very near the goal line.
Snack time of lunch came with a meeting of minds. An artist from Oceanside came out to chat about music, life, co-writing and possible hiring of my production skills. South of the border food was consumed, words were bandied about and a good time was had.
Post lunch came more tweaking. Tweaking of art, uploading of files, and positive direction given to my next release. Oh yes, it’s coming soon. More emails were sent, more text messages were relayed. More tweaking of audio. More time spent listening to birds sing. I was over the moon to hear from a friend.
More mixes with fixes turned into finished product on this project. A little help in straightening out a computer issue for a parent lead the way as I was already out the door. On my way to a show, a rock show. I was on time, but the show started late. It’s LA, whaddaya expect?
Typically speaking it would seem like a normal day in LA. However it is not. Or maybe it is. As I’ve heard once from a comedian friend of mine, Dave Matthews can take anything and make it sound sexy somehow. That’s the best way to make use of cliches in music – find a way to make them sexy and the world will bow. That’s not to say that Dave Matthews is full cliches, no, he’s done his fair share of being Dave, as he should.
I like how Dave can bravely toss out rhythms. His band is a very talented bunch of that there is no doubt. So gather around the old camp fire and listen to the yarn. Keep an open mind and an open ear. Like what you’re hearing and you don’t have it? Time to go get it!
