I had a great time in the past 24 hours. I had an impromptu schedule change in the afternoon that led to a quick recording session with my friend Jesse Stern coming over to lay some bass lines down on a new song that I’m doing. Of course I could have recorded the bass myself, however I’m having a lot more fun getting other musicians to come in a add their magic to the music I’ve written. Plus Jesse is a stellar bass player with cooler bass gear. The result was a bass line that added some additional magic that I wasn’t thinking of. And that is what is so cool about music.
I’m getting excited about the song it’s coming together nicely. Especially since I’ve gone back to the idea of pre-production, something I haven’t done in a while. Now that I am, and also doing the re-write and tweak thing, it’s certainly improving the quality of what I’m writing. That’s a great thing.
After the recording I had a couple of classes for things that I’ve been doing for fun, like acting workshops. Then Jesse and I went and caught Earth. The movie done by the BBC and Disney. It’s stunning. Very cool movie about several parts of the earth that we city-folk don’t normally get to see all that often, if at all. It’s the kind of movie that makes you wonder why we humans worry about things like money. If you have any inclination to learn about earth at all, go!
Since I had Earth on the mind I found a song in my library that is simply called that – Earth. It’s by a cat that you may recognize for a last name, Zappa. And it’s about showing the Earth some respect. There’s some guitarchestration going on and then it flows into a full blown rocker.
I’m diggin it for it’s guitar sensibility, it’s balls out rockness, and that it’s about Earth. It’s not on iTunes (not sure why) and I’m going to break precedent today and roll with it. Go figure.
