I’m sure the bloggispher is on fire today about the inauguration of President Obama. As it should be. I postponed the run I was set to do this morning so I could watch the event. Historical as it is. I’m happy I watched it. A very good changing of the guard. I had put a message on my IM chat list that seemed to prompt a lot of questions from my friends. It simply read “Finally!!”. My friend Femke who, like me doesn’t own a TV, wasn’t watching the inauguration. She asked what the Finally meant. As did several others. I replied that we finally had a new president in place and that it is a great thing.
How did I watch? Via CNN streaming video. It worked great. Kudos to that site and it’s coverage with little to no commentary. It didn’t need it.
Mark that with something that happened during my run. My mom is in town and her dog is staying with me. So I took it with me for a run. It pooped out at the halfway mark. I couldn’t believe it. I had to end up walking back because her dog was out of shape and unable to run the whole way.
Add to that this… As I was about to eat lunch the dog started barking madly, which it doesn’t do much at all. So I went to look at what was going on and in my yard were two birds. The sort of looked like peacocks, but I’m pretty sure they weren’t peacocks. Non-the-less I picked up my camera and decided to snap some shots of the fowl in my yard. I’ll have to post them somewhere to see if anyone knows what they are. Very strange.
Thus my choice for music today. I needed some good ol’ rock and rock to bring the world back in order. Some rock from our northern counterparts in Canada. The Tragically Hip are exactly that, too hip for rock. With all the thing going on today it’s the world looking for a place to happen. What better than to have a song about that very thing?
Kickin out a straight up rock groove with a wailing vocal and running guitars. That’s the pure and simple of it. Nothing more needs to be said other than, if you don’t have any Tragically Hip in your collection, why?
