Yesterday ended up being a whole lot of work. I may have mentioned that I was doing some stuff for a major sports league. Let’s count how many versions it was… One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, aw shit that’s gonna take a whole of typing. It was a grand total of 58 versions of the same song. That’s a hell of a lot singing. Not to mention hours of work bouncing thru the mixes. Which is what I spent a good deal of last night and this morning doing.
Now I’m currently at the mastering house, where they’re working on getting all 58 done in as efficient a manner as possible. Hopefully I’ll have them back tomorrow. For those that think music isn’t work, I say piss-off. It’s more time consuming than any job I’ve ever heard someone talk about. Though I do admit it’s a labor of love. That’s the real bonus to do what you love. Even if it can drive you up a wall sometimes.
The good and the bad of it is… I know I’ll be doing probably 100+ more versions of this same song in the not so distant future. Thus learning to be efficient about it is the priority.
Compound that with working on finishing numerous other songs, co-writers and their songs, and music cues and it becomes all work and no play makes Jody a dull boy. Yikes!
I need some help from a band that my dad loved. The Cars. I’ve featured them here before. They have a song off the Candy-O album that describes the feeling right now. A perfect description. There’s no wrong with the Cars. Great writing. Cool ideas. Funky production. It works. If you don’t have Candy-O then what is wrong with you?
That’s all I can say about it. Go get it now!
