Well it’s certainly a better start to my day after St. Paddy’s Day this year than last… Search out last year’s post to find out what happened from my previous year’s evening.
I’ve got the studio primarily all cleaned up from all the stuff lying around. Took some pictures and wrote up some thoughts on the before and after. Downloaded the pictures from the camera. I took about 70 pictures of the process of the before, during, and after. It’s a very nice transformation. I’m pleased with it. Seems that the editor of Sound On Sound who was so gracious to help me from afar with the process and what to do, is very interested in what I think. Which is awesome.
I’m charging up the bus batteries as tomorrow it goes to the repair place to get an estimate for some updates. My management is finally putting their money where their mouth is and putting up the front for the bus. Guess they finally have some shows in the works and that the ability to finally push the CD should come to fruition soon. Lets say I won’t be holding my breath on it.
I’m going through recent songs that I’ve been working on and tweaking. Finding places where words can be snipped in a song I wrote with Shairah. It’s a tad too wordy which makes it difficult to sing with ease. Also lends to a slightly complicated rhythm and melody. It’s calling to me saying that it needs to be more simple. So I’m listening to the song and it’s desires.
Songs and their desires. That’s a really good concept. I wonder how many artists or rather songwriters actually listen to the desire of the songs they create. I’m thinking that Virginia Coalition probably does. Today’s selection has a very nice easy flow. It’s got a good build, starts nice and mellow with instruments coming in. The chorus has a very obvious transition that doesn’t kill the vibe. It enhances it. Even the bridge has a bold little change that really keeps me listening.
Reference wise I’d probably put Virginia Coalition along the likes of someone like a Dave Matthews or Jason Mraz, there’s another artist that I’m picturing though the name is escaping me. The song as it begins almost made me think it was for something like Good Will Hunting. All good things. I expect that Virginia Coalition must have signed a deal of some sort as their CD which came out today isn’t on CD Baby. But they do have older stuff that you can explore there. Take it upon yourself to hit that iTunes link for the song or better yet grab the whole CD at Amazon, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
