Yup, not back to 100% yet. Oh the drag of being down with a cold. I thought I’d at least get up to post a little ditty from a band that had some huge hits. I probably heard their music long before I knew who they were. But while attending music school I met someone related to the drummer. Jeff Pocaro I believe is his name. There are some drum beats that he came up with that apparently give a lot of drummers trouble. How’s that for being a really damn good drummer for holding grooves?
Of course watching this video shows that the industry has also changed. Here you have a group that is amazingly talented from a musical standpoint. In fact if you don’t see them you’d never know. Unfortunately in today’s market this band probably wouldn’t have had the huge hits they did. They don’t have that marketable look. That’s both the boon and the catch 22 of the internet music era.
People want to see their music, not just listen to it. Of course if the band isn’t eye candy, someone may put an eye candy band together as the front. Lots of times no one knows, other times big embarrassment can happen. Ever heard of Milli Vanili (I think that’s how it’s spelled)? They were eye candy to artists that really wrote and recorded. Then at the Grammys when they were performing, their tape screwed up. It put a major dent in their career and hurt the Grammys as well.
Seems that getting busted for lack of talent tends to end a career pretty quick. Unless the PR peeps can spin it right.
(** Disclaimer: If Toto’s label decides to line up on me, I’ll have to stop holding the the video link line I’ve got here. The post will remain while I get rest and recover. **)
