I first heard this song on a movie trailer. So there’s also a good chance you’ve heard it to. Then again maybe not. But I don’t care. This song is so uptempo catchy that it kills me. The movie in question is Paparazzi. Which if you haven’t seen it is a great ‘B’ grade flick about being a famous movie star. Of course the main character in the movie, played by Cole Hauser, isn’t about to let Hollywood and the ‘stalkarazzi’ change who he’s supposed to be. I don’t think the song was directly written for the film but man how appropriate the lyrics are for it.
So, I finally tracked down the song and purchased it on iTunes. Of course this led me to checking out more of Bleu’s material. While I don’t find all of the Redhead Album to my liking, I did notice another total standout song called ‘Could Be Worse’. In fact I noticed something so nutty that I had to do some followup research on it. What was that thing you noticed Jody? Well, the songwriting and production reminded me BIG time of one of my favorite bands of all time: Jellyfish. To my delight I found that Bleu had a co-writer on that song and it was none other than Andy Sturmer of Jellyfish. So I purchased that song too. Eventually I may post it here, but I started with this song.
How does this relate for me with Hollywood? Well, I did go to music school there. It was right in the thick of things and its amazing to me how many classmates were so into the look of whole Rockstar thing, rather than the music. Oh sure they were there to learn, but most of them spent their time looking cool rather than learning to play better or cooler than anyone else. Fortunately I think it didn’t work out much better for any of them breaking into the biz. Whilst now, I’m finally spending some time on fitting the look to the music. But I’m happy I got good at what I do. I never did feel like I could ‘sell out’ to Hollywood. But what did end up happening is my desire to sell what I’m doing increased. I can’t ask a brain surgeon to give me a free operation. Actually I could, but I’d probably get laughed at. What’s scary is that I’ve heard that brain surgeons that attempt to play instruments often find it harder to do and be creative that it is to operate on someone’s head. Yet, they get paid ridiculous sums of money whilst a musician’s talent often gets tossed aside and deemed unnecessary to be purchased but should instead copied. How out of wack is that? Ugh, enough of my ranting, love this song? Hate it? Tell me and the rest of the world.
Don’t copy, buy it if you like it and I think you do.
(p.s. – this is my disclaimer that if this song is found out and I get attacked by the label for writing about it, I will remove the audio for fear of being sued, so enjoy the clip while it’s here)
i dig it. the quick syncopated groove reminds me a bit of of “little guitars” by Van Halen.
