It’s not often that a player comes along and makes me say to myself, wow – that was some amazing playing. In that sense I feel like my taste for instrumental acoustic guitar playing has been Hijacked by a guy named Preston Reed.
From the moment I heard this album, that was brought to my attention by Brian A. Whitney of Just Plain Folks, I couldn’t deny how amazing his sense of rhythm and sheer attack of the guitar was/is. I’ve had someone recently explain to me that when I play guitar it’s as if the instrument is just a part of who I am, not some external foriegn object that gets strummed. Thus its a part of my soul. Well, that’s always a fun compliment to hear, but I think that Preston Reed has that connection more than I do. But then I can’t separate myself to see what it looks like when I play.
I’ve never met Preston, I’ve never seen him play live. Though I certainly hope I get a chance to. His playing is so dynamic – and this song is only one example of that. I certainly would hope that watching him play is as much fun as listening to his creations. I can imagine that he stomps and glides around the stage like he owns it. If he’s not doing this, he should. I don’t know if he gets to the states often, so I hope to make to the UK. Either way, I can’t imagine you’d be disappointed in owning this song let alone the whole album called Ladies Night.
What does this song give you a feeling of? I can certainly tell that I’m being taken on a trip, the first time might have been against my will, but the repeated trips certainly weren’t. Have your say…
