I didn’t think about it the other day, but I had made a post about putting out fires. Yesterday was the beginning of fierce winds in southern california. The winds that wreak havoc. Powerful winds blowing dirt all over the place, knocking fruit out of trees, and generally making a mess.
It will make for a slightly difficult time to clean up around my yard, but it will have to get done tomorrow non-the-less. I will do it prior to jumping in the car and going for a random drive somewhere. That’s right I’m feeling like continuing a little thing I started last week to pick a spot on the map and go there. I had fun doing it yesterday, I should have fun doing it tomorrow. I’m sure there’s a winery or two that isn’t too far from Los Angeles. Maybe I’ll head to one of those to try out something completely different.
Which leads me to a band that hails from the southern california area and is actually going to be making the rounds in my favorite home town of Park City. Seems these cats are playing a show or two during the Sundance Film Festival. It all starts next week. They have a bit of a quirky nature.
Actually the beginning of this song sorta reminds me of the guitar tone from a rather big progressive rock band from Canada. That band would be Rush. However, once the song kicks in, it’s quite obvious that it’s a substantially different vibe from Rush. Nothing close really. When the song kicks in I get a bit of a theatrical type of thing mixed some sensibility from maybe Imperial Drag or Jellyfish tied to something as bizarre as Pulp Fiction if that could make any sense. They certainly have a sound all to themselves.
That’s one of those catch 22 situations. When you’ve got a sound that is quirky and original in nature it makes it difficult to gain wide acceptance. The bonus to that is should a band gain that wide acceptance it helps them to stand out for a while before the imitators come along. I think there’s something in their sound that is inspiring. I also think it’s interesting that they’ve gone a completely digital route for this release. Thus you can get it on iTunes, Amazon, and they’re own website.
What I noticed about their website is that you get a serial number for the CD before you download it. That’s rather different. I’ll probably need to ask about that at some point, as I have some crazy notions on how I want to proceed in releasing my next CD. It will be tiered in pricing based on the quality of the file. But I digress. Dolphin City is out making waves and it might be a wise idea to cave their wave.
Great song – great band – awesome live!
you guys are amazing!
One of the best bands I have heard live!
Excellent Choice!
FUCK! YES! SINGLE OF MY LIFE!
Watch out for these guys. 09!!!!
Wine and Grapes was an excellent choice! I agree, Dolphin City definitely has a unique sound. It is true that with a unique sound you get a difficult audience, but with that said; they work very hard and I am positive that their unique sound will win the majority over.
Oh! I remember seeing them play this song at Sundance! I was just hanging out and then Dolphin CIty began to play, everyone began to simply watch and listen to hear what they would play, like others, I couldnt stay still and I just stayed for the whole set, they looked like good guys, great musicians, and hearing this song reminded me of that show. Very good single.
