Ok, so yesterday I showcased a simple tune with a cool story. Today I feature another mellow type song, however the production on this is clearly in the opposite direction. In case you don’t know Jeff, he’s actually been in the music business for a very long time. He’s a brilliant singer that has had a number of peaks and valleys in his career. For those that know me and my singing, I actually owe a huge debt of gratitude to Jeff. I was fortunate enough to be roommates with him when I was learning to sing. So being around him I was turned on to lots of fantastic singers, not to mention I was conscious as all hell opening my mouth around him. It was that intense self criticism of my own singing that got me to hone my own voice drastically. I can’t hold a candle to this guy, but I do get tons of compliments on my singing these days.
This particular song is full of tons of production values that Jeff has picked up over the years. Big choruses, with tons of vocal tracks, layers of guitars and other instruments. THE sound of the big commercial rock stuff. Funny I mention something about the guitars, for if you read the liner notes on the album you’ll find out who played the guitar for most of this song. I’ll give ya a hint. You’re reading his blog right now. Lyrically it’s about a guy who likes a girl and wants her to know he’s gonna always be there for her. I’m not about to all gay on ya here, but between Jeff and I, we’re pretty loyal friends. I know that I’ve taught him a thing or two in life, just like he indirectly taught me stuff about music. This is one of the hardest working musicians I’ve ever met outside of myself. As of a few days ago Jeff became the new lead singer for Journey. Yup, he’s filling in for the shoes Steve Perry broke in. Despite that, I still believe that you should support this man. Buy his music. Just because it sounds great and also because like me, he needs help too.
If you really want a large background on Jeff and those he’s sung for and produced, do a google search or visit his website. It reads like a who’s who of the entire industry of Rock, in all forms. There’s no way I can do him justice here. Don’t like this sound, then give me an eye-full by leaving a comment. I’d be willing to bet the opposite, and even so I think you should let me know that as well.
This is my kind of music. Actually, I was checking out JSS website. Flew from Houston, Texas to San Diego last week to hear Jeff. It’s been my pleasure to hear your song. Thank you.
