Well, I told ya it would be a mellow weekend. At least the latter half was. To continue the trend I’m getting your week off to a mellow start. Maybe even a bit meloncholic as well, is that even a word? Anyway, I met Shandy a few years back. He was in Los Angeles for an awards show by a group called Just Plain Folks. Shandy was nominated for a few categories and was present for the festivities leading up to the actual awards. This man knows how to write an amazing story. Something that is prize key to having an amazing Americana style song.
IHOP to me represents this… The dispiritedness we can feel when we’ve been kicked down. Or in the case of this story, plain getting old. I’ll riff on the first idea that I’m thinking of. People that know me personally know I’ve been going through a fairly rough patch in my life since probably say March. I’ve had some ridiculous setbacks that we’re all due to things well beyond my control. But hey, you do what you can to get over them. Funny thing is, just a few hours ago, I ended up having a really nice change for once. I took some time off to hang with friends and go to a casino here in California. I entered a poker tournament and actually won. It was quite exciting, certainly gave me a shot in the arm to stand back up. Which is exactly what I needed right now.
So if you think you’re having a rough time. Think about the main character in this song. Is you’re life going as poorly as his has? Probably not. Mind you, some of you are probably wondering why my taste is running so far all over the map, from Solo Singer Songwriters to full blown band productions. Well, it’s because I like a variety. I appreciate talent over substance (most of the time). But then I also love slick production when there’s meaning behind it. Did today’s choice piss ya off cause it’s so baren in production? If so, just wait till tomorrow. Comment on it now, I dare ya.
