Ahh, the adventures of going places. Yes, there are many times when you or I spend time thinking about what it would be like to head somewhere new. Hit the open road. Often times it can be while we’re sitting at a desk and day dreaming what it would be like to be somewhere else. For me I recently put into motion a plan for mountain biking the great divide along the rockies. For today’s artist it would be heading out to Carolina beach, or maybe just a place called Carolina in general. I’m going with the beach theme.
I’ve never actually been to Carolina, but I’ve heard it’s quite nice. I just googled some photos of a beach in North Carolina. It’s much like a less crowded version of a California beach, only with smaller waves. Sun is shining, people are out having fun. Yup, that’s a beach idea right there. Often when we’re left with images of a place in our head, it’s a utopian ideal.
As I listen to Rod Clemmons about Carolina, I get the impression he’s actually singing about a woman named Carolina. He’s remembering a time of a happier place with her. I don’t know what it was that split them up, but it’s obvious that he’s wishing they were together. There’s a whole lot of metaphors going on here. Then in another verse he mentions being out on the road. Maybe this is a love song about missing his woman when he’s out on the road.
I like how the song opens immediately with the hook. It’s full. It’s luscious. It’s catchy. There’s a pleasant, soothing, smooth feeling going on here. The piano part is colored out with little guitar bits that come in like little splashes on the left and right.
I don’t know about you but I get the feeling he’s going for with his desire for getting to this place. While he might not be heading out to carolina beach, it’s definitely a place that feels like a good place or person to visit. If you’re feeling it too, get Rod’s song for yourself.
