So what was my surprise from the weekend? Well the friend that called was calling to see if I’d like to go see U2 in concert that night. The other person that was supposed to go had to back out last minute. I was offered the ticket at a severe discount and I took it. I had never seen U2 and I had heard that it’s something to be seen. While I wouldn’t call myself a huge U2 fan, I am a fan and I do have a good amount and sense of their music.
I’ve seen the U2 movie from a few years ago and that was pretty impressive. So I had a little sense of what they’re like live. What a heck of a journey they have had. If you’ve seen It Might Get Loud, you’d know what I mean.
What did I think of the show? It was a tremendous visual experience. Sonically it left a little to be desired for a vast majority of the show. You’d think that someone would have noticed the bass and the kick drum were waaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy to loud in the mix for way too long. Eventually about half way through the show someone finally figured it out and corrected it. Once it was corrected it was substantially better.
In all, I left the show happy to have seen it. It’s also given me a nice perspective to think about as I go in to recording my next CD. If you haven’t seen a U2 show, I recommend it.
Oh and of course I had to run another U2 song just because. Since it’s also been a hit, is there anything I really need to say?
