Connection…
Dave?
What are you doing Dave?
I’m getting sleepy Dave…
the HAL-9000 was one of those creepy creatures from movie history. Dave was probably even creepier. I remember seeing the follow up to 2001 A Space Odyssey when it came out. It inspired me to go see the movie by Stanley Kubrick. Don’t see the movie unless you can handle long drawn out pieces of film. I’m into that artistic stuff easily as much if not more than I am of action blockbusters.
2001 was a different world as it was envisioned compared to how it actually turned out. Go figure.
In the current age of wanting ever faster connections to the internet and communication it’s definitely a drag when you’re in need of being connected to conduct some of your business and suddenly you’re cut off and not by your own desire. It’s great to unplug once in while – via a vacation or something.
This morning was an unconnected morning. That’s what led to the delay of today’s post. Factors beyond my control. The best is when you’re on the phone to ISP support and they instantly assume you’re stupid and know nothing about tech gear. I don’t call them unless there is an issue on their end. However, I had to spend 90 minutes on the phone with a tech person (who was probably in India) who refused to elevate the ‘ticket’ to the next level. So I had to sit thru his bullshit and redo everything I had already done in getting the connection back up.
What did he learn? That nothing had changed and that he needed to elevate the ticket! Thanks for wasting 75 minutes you bastard. Then the 2nd tier gets on the line. While waiting for them I decided to look up the tech report on the modem. As she answered the phone, I immediately told her what the modem reported. To which she replied, ah, I’ll fix the circuit. WHY DON’T TECH SUPPORT PEOPLE LISTEN TO CUSTOMERS THAT AREN’T STUPID?!? Then the nice 2nd lady mentioned there was an outage in my area – again, why didn’t the first idiot bother to take a look at that and tell me?!?
Anyway, I’m back online and back in business. Now it’s time to get on the horn and make some calls. Create one more piece of music for the meeting with Fox Sports tomorrow and get geared up for another song writing session.
Loss of net, loss of communication, loss of words. That’s what leads me to today’s pick. Some good pure hard groovin’ melody rock. So many bands try. So many bands fail. However, I think Soundside is on to something good here. I think if they can get past the obvious influences they’ll really take off. I like the energy. I dig the sound. The music is solid. The vocals are tight. They’ve got the idea down, it will really be a matter of really cranking out some fantastic songs like this and beyond. It’s all about the songs. They have a great start on their hands!
Interestingly I don’t know if the actual CD is out for physical sale yet. But you can get it on iTunes. Though it’s not on Amazon or CD Baby. I’m a strong advocate of going digital for the distribution, but I think it’s a little odd not to get on all the big services. But that’s just me. I’m even thinking of releasing Practical Insanity to vinyl. I will definitely release my next release on vinyl. It will require a whole different type of mixing. One where I may have to enlist and old school mixing engineer to help me achieve the right mix for vinyl. I think it will be worth it.
Go get the music!
