So I had gotten the studio computer back and been told to reinstall everything. Which was promptly done. The machine, a Mac Pro, was working great for about 6 days straight. Working great until last night. Dealing with some video last night the Mac Pro decided to shut itself off. This time on rebooting it crashed again. Restarted, and seemed to be working only to crash yet again 5 minutes later.
The one difference on this crash is that the computer wouldn’t reboot. Instead it started cycling the optical drives. Now the computer won’t boot up, it won’t chime like it’s been turned on. It merely shows the power light, sounds like it’s to do something and then does nothing.
Anger comes to mind. After Apple had the computer for over a week telling me they could find nothing wrong and suggested it would a good idea to wipe it clean and start again – which was done – and then to have the same thing happen, only this time no worky at all.
This morning it was a trip to Melrose Mac for repairs. I learned that Apple and their authorized repair people all keep the records so it doesn’t matter where it’s taken so long as they are authorized. Melrose Mac is more familiar with studio machines and has less of a backlog than Apple. Which will likely mean less time out of my hands. Doesn’t help much that it’s now Thanksgiving though. May not get the machine back before Tuesday, and that would mean canceling a writing/recording session – I hate doing that.
Melrose Mac did say they may get an answer by today as to what is going on. That would be great. I’ve also heard stories that if the computer goes in for repair 3 times while covered by Apple Care that it’s likely they’d replace it with a brand new one. While I’m not keen on the machine breaking down again after this, I would hope those stories are true as I’d love to have a replacement that is newer faster and stronger.
Because this happened late last night and I’m having to deal with it today, I’m going with a classic song called Tuesday’s Dead. I need a little mellower song right now to reduce the moment that I’m having with this computer. It’s a great song that has a fun rhythm and spirited vibe for something that has a somewhat morbid title. If you haven’t been privy to enjoying this song before, what is your delay? Go get some Cat Stevens into your world and do it now.
