It’s early summer here in LA. Actually it’s usually pretty much summer all year round, only with varying degrees of heat. Yesterday was an evening of friends and game play. One of the requests that tends to happen is for me to make pizza. Which is a good thing. I love to make it. However, another friend Jon is very much into cooking really cool meals and last night he made paiaya. A process that took some time while we were milling about drinking and chatting. That’s the great thing about a evening with friends like that. Getting together, talking, drinking and getting to eat some really good food.
Of course playing the games is fun too, but the conversations are what begin to take the forefront. It seems that games like Balderdash and Apples to Apples tend to bring out the experiences you’ve had in life and what you’d want to repeat and or do again. My favorites are when answers are given for humor and it leads to people laughing to the point of crying. I tend to give those types of answers. Though it’s to the point where my friends tend to know which answers I wrote, so I’m working on varying it up so that it’s not so obvious.
One of the things that was fun last night was letting someone DJ thru the laptop. Obviously I’ve got a fairly large library of music that also ranges over a bunch of decades and styles. What can I say, “I dig music” (name that movie quote). Anyway there were quite a few songs being played from long gone eras. I suppose the DJ was looking for something a little different than current. Which is why I thought of Cyndi for this morning. While it wasn’t all girls last night, we were all having fun and the song is a fun song – despite the fact that it names girls directly.
I’ve never seen Cyndi live. But the song is fun due to it’s campy feel. Besides, who doesn’t like a song they’ve heard all their lives that is fun to sing along to? It’s one of those kinds of songs that people probably would call a guilty pleasure. What’s so wrong with liking a song that is upbeat and fun? Nada.
If you don’t have it, it’s time you go get it!
