In case you’re not a long time fan of Single of the Day you don’t know me personally, I’m gonna let you know that I started running barefoot last year. Initially when I started it last year it was a really different concept. My feet didn’t take well to it initially, but primarily because I had been used to running over 6 miles in shoes. So my first few times I ran too far and blistered my feet. Fast forward a year and now I can run much better.
Going barefoot changes the way you run. Your body will know how it should run. Add to that that you get to feel the surface you run on. Now my feet are fine with it and I’m starting to run a little further than 2 miles. I’d like to get back to doing upwards of 10 miles. But it takes time to toughen the feet properly.
Best thing is, now I don’t have major issues with tenderfoot.
I will say that running barefoot really changes the connection to the ground.
No, I’m not crazy.
A great song that I have in my library about the idea of running, at least in the title is the song Running from Jenny Bruce. I met Jenny while she was out on tour a few years back. I very much enjoy Jenny’s songwriting as it’s very eclectic with a smooth pop flavor. It contains that hint of ‘hot-damn-this-should-be-mainstream-but-its-just-outside-the-box-a-little-too-far’. She’s got a great voice that is easy to latch on to.
Musically I really like the guitar part with it’s delays splitting off on each hit in the playing. Great rhythm. The bass is tight and full. The drums come in and build through the song in a very musical way. Such a pleasure to hear musicians playing for the song and not strictly for the chops of it all.
I recommend you pick up this song, the whole album and explore her other releases. You won’t be disappointed.
