This process of updating things around the house will likely never end. Now that I’m enjoying musical bliss, I’m finding other things that need to be fixed or replaced. One such thing is the old landline telephone. Imagine that, those things still exist. My primary use for my landline is for DSL service for sending faxes once in a while. It’s extremely rare for me to use it for an actual phone call.
I still have a cordless phone for that occasional use. I went to plug it in the other day only to find that the battery would no longer hold a charge to work the phone. Guess that’s how it goes when it remains unplugged for a year. I only plugged it in because it got a new phone jack that sits in a more appropriate place and out of sight. Looks like I’ll be making a trip to Radio Shack to find a replacement battery.
This morning I also decided to fire up all my iPods sitting in the studio. I haven’t touched them in months. I have a shuffle that I used to use while running, though now that I take a camelback and gps my runs with the iPhone, I don’t really use the shuffle anymore. Then I have a third generation Nano. I’m actually planning on using that as a giveaway for a music contest, most likely later this year. Then there is the original first gen brick iPod. Yes, I still have my first iPod. It went to my sister, then to my mom, and it has come back to me. It’s seen a lot of use.
I charge up the shuffle, still tickin. I charge up the Nano, still tickin. I plugged in the brick and wondered if it would work at all. I wasn’t even sure if iTunes would recognize the thing seeing as how Apple no longer allows firewire connections to new iPods. It took a few tries, but it finally got a little charge going and iTunes saw it. I left it charging and then unhooked it only to find that it’s not a happy camper. I’m going to try and do a restore on it and see if it will ever work. Though this may all be for naught. Not like I’m gonna ever use for anything other than saying – hey remember this?
There’s only one song I can think of that has the word battery in the title. That’s Battery by Metallica. I’m probably taking a risk at the wrath of Metallica by posting it here. Kinda why I’m opting with a video on YouTube. One thing Metallica got right in their comeuppance is the relentless touring they did. It didn’t hurt that they went wherever someone would play their music on the radio. Additionally, they had art that worked for what they were doing. Take the members individually and they didn’t work, but their combination was a powerhouse.
They pack a punch. Hardened lyrics. Hardened music. It’s blood and fist pumping stuff. My first concert was a Metallica concert opening for Ozzy. My first concert where I went without parents that is. It was damn loud. Metallica was so loud, I pretty much only saw Ozzy and felt his music. Oh man, that was an experience. I didn’t enjoy not being able to hear for 3 days afterwards. The lesson I learned there is, get ear plugs. Enjoy the music and be able to hear afterwards.
Go forth, fix and rock!
