It’s an early style of winter. In some mountains they’re already getting snowfall. Here in LA we’re getting some rain and some much needed cooler temps.
Change is finally in the air. That’s the good thing. Maybe this is just what the world ordered. The point at which things will get back on track and life will continue to move on without the fear of the financial disaster of the past year and a half. Will it? Good question.
One thing that is fun is to find nuggets from the past that make you happy. One thing I loved when living with the parents was to watch cartoons. Among my favorites was Tom & Jerry. There was one Tom & Jerry cartoon that did not involve Tom or Jerry, but was probably my all time favorite. It was called Symphony in Slang. A friend that I’ve been dating recently discovered it on the net and sent me the link. Thus I’m now reposting it here for you to watch at your convenience.
The brilliance of it is the use of all the slang terms people use and putting them to images of what they literally mean rather than what they intend to mean. It’s funny.
Someone that I met earlier this year was an interesting twist of mellancholly and upbeat. It was Alexa. A fellow musician that hailed from Park City. A few years younger and still making a way in the world. She’s certainly got some talent and we traded songs while hanging out one night. Though there was talk of doing some co-writing it has yet to fruit. Regardless, due to the water coming from the sky I’m rolling with one of her tunes called Vanilla Rain.
I like the eclectic nature of the arrangement of this song. It sorta has a circus feel to it. I think it’s the trombones giving it that feel. Something about sliding trombones in a short nature like that always reminds me of a 3 ring circus, I have no idea why that is.
Of course the song has a non-circus melody. When the chorus jumps in and the drums lay down their thing the song becomes more poppy. It’s catchy. Doncha think?
Go get it!
