I’m looking forward to a day of music today. A buddy of mine, Jesse Stern, is coming over to do some writing for my library. It’s not like we haven’t done some writing in the past, however it usually resulted in attempting to write something funny. The end result usually wasn’t all that pleasing. This time around there is a reason and style that is the goal.
He’s really good at the whole funk and world beat type of thing. Must be since he plays bass for Sly Stone. I like to think I can do a variety of styles and generally it’s true. However, I’m not a specialist in the style he is. It will be an interesting match going for fusing what the two of us can do.
One thing that a lot of people can relate to being in a post Valentine’s state is how they might feel about someone they don’t have. That is they want a feeling to go away. I know I’ve been there a few times. I’m sure most people have at least once. That feeling eventually goes away and it can have one of two effects on us. One is it causes a person to withdraw and pull away from new things and people. The other is that it frees a person up to expand and meet a new life and move on.
I think the idea is well summed up in the song you’re hearing now by Kelly Harper. Her tune Til This Goes Away is a textbook example of what makes a great pop song. No if’s, and’s, or but’s about it. From the opening guitar riff that essentially pulses thru much of the song, to the smooth vocal that radiates from Kelly it’s a winning combination.
Slick production has certainly helped make a song that feels familiar even upon a first listen sound like an old friend that you want to keep around forever. Especially when your in a time of in-between.
Go get Kelly now!
