Once in a while a day slips by where I end up getting a few too many things to do in a day. As a friend recently posted on Facebook, if there were 50 hours in a day my life would be a whole lot easier. I don’t know if such a change would really make my life a whole lot easier as there would end up being more time to fill with things to do.
Such is the case for today. I ended up with overbooking it and I simply got to this post a tad to late to be effective about anything…
Thus I’ll penalize myself with an untimely old post about the fact that as the clock moves forward we’re all getting a little older a moment at a time. Never Too Late is an interesting little look at life with how people are obsessed with getting older. Actually there are several songs that I had on A Natural Leap Forward that were about the concept of age. I’m not sure why that happened but it did.
One of the nifty little facts of the recording process of Never Too Late is how the drums happened. Paul Kaiser is the drummer on this song. One of several drummers that I’ve played with. He is an amazing drummer who’s timing is insanely amazing. There’s a point in the song between sections where some effects and noises are panning around in the song. At the time I created them they were quantized to a grid for the beat. I remember going thru the mix stage after Paul had recorded his drums and I was creating the movement in this explosion type of sound that pans from side to side, as I was listening I kept thinking I’ll need to make sure I cut the snare hits to match it. But I didn’t have to. Paul’s playing was so tight that it matched it so well, there was no need to touch it. Brilliant.
I particularly like the guitar riff, but then I’m a little biased about it. One of the coolest sections to me happens to be the bridge. I’m not sure why. I guess I sometimes have a knack for coming up with a really interesting section that is decidedly different from the rest of the song, yet still feels like an integral part to the song. Though I would say that I now concentrate way more on the chorus and the whole song. Lots of my earlier songs had happy accident bridge moments.
Hope you don’t feel like you’re getting too old yet. If you do, this is the song you need to remind you, it’s never too late to stop growing old.
