Well, I figured it would be a little better for sleep last night, but I was wrong. I tried to wear Dorian out as best I could, even took him on a late walk around 11 p.m. He can be a little stubborn for a puppy. He’ll walk with the leash for a little ways then when coming to a driveway he will sit and refuse to continue. So I coax him a little. Most of the time, I have to drop the leash and then he’ll come running. I’m working on the Dog Whisperer style, but I’m not sure if he’s too young to get started with that. We’ll see.
Anyway, he got me up around 2, then again around 4, and again around 6:30. Oy. The first time, he needed to go out and pee. Then he wanted a chew toy. Then he was hungry. I’m hoping that tonight he will sleep right thru. That would be ideal.
I will say that he is taking some of the commands of my alpha status well. He will sit and wait for me to enter or leave the house first. Though some times he’s a little quick to get out and I have to stop him. But then he’s a puppy. It might be a little much for him sometimes.
I will say that walking him earlier today was better than last night. I did take him on errands in the car today and the great thing is, once he’s in the car and it’s going, he goes right to sleep. He has no trouble getting in the car which is great. I also introduced him to more people today. I’m hoping I don’t over do it and make him a little spastic. I’d rather he stay mellow like he generally is so far.
I will give praise to the fact that he is already climbing in and out of the studio. In fact he left the studio today after sleeping at my feet while I was working. A crept out to take a look and he was going to the bathroom in the yard. Woo hoo, he’s already got that part solved for the studio. Great!
Which is why I’m thinking of the song I’m playing for today. It’s all about that need for sleep. Which is something I know about from long nights in the studio. However it’s never been due to a young thing that has different schedule. My thinking is it should hopefully only last a couple of days. One can hope.
As for this song by Tal, I know that his meaning for the phrase If You Sleep isn’t quite where I’m taking the meaning. I’m looking at in such a way that I really would like Dorian to sleep so that I can get some sleep. That’s going to be ideal. As for how I feel about Tal as an artist, well I think I summed it up great in a post that you can read here (Tal Bachman).
I like the dreamy nature of the intro to this song. It really sets up the visual end of the music. That’s really how a lot of music should live, don’t you think? I do. There is no doubt that Tal surrounded himself with great players. Why shouldn’t he, he’s a great player, a great writer and comes from a lineage of popular music as well.
If you’re digging the song there’s no doubt that I firmly believe you need to purchase the song. It’s the right thing to do. Now excuse me while I go watch some more of the Dog Whisperer, eat some food, then walk the puppy with hopefully enough walking to wear the little dude out for the whole night.
