A short while back there was a massive wind storm that blew down half of a tree in my back yard. Remnants of it are still piled up as I’m attempting to get rid of it. However another tree on my property must have been weakened by the wind as Friday morning another tree had a massive branch drop. Luckily it did no damage to the house or car.
I wonder if it’s mother nature’s way of saying, hey it’s time for these trees to get a facelift.
Maybe.
Now that I’ve gotten more of all that trimmed up, I’m going to head over to a buddy’s house and watch some football for the afternoon. Still working on getting out of a funk that I’ve been in for a few days. I’m coming out of it, but I’m not 100% yet.
I wonder if it was a bit of feeling held down or something. Not something I particularly care for. I don’t really know anyone that would be. That is the idea that I’m getting from behind this song by Oak Lane called Held Down. Someone who is finally done with having someone holding them down, or even holding themselves down.
It opens with some pretty heavy guitar riffs. It’s no secret that I’m a closet guitar riff lover. I am guitar player, and I love heavy riffs as much as any sweet acoustic thing. I love guitar especially when it’s played well. There’s a whole lot of different parts in here. It’s got an ebb and flow. The drums are sharp and crisp. The bass is popping in there keeping the low end down.
There are some different vocal lines going on in the song that are strangely crossing over each other, but it’s a nice change of pace from fully unison’d vocals on so much music.
Oak Lane is giving their music away for free. Thus it’s a Sunday’s Child type of entry. I haven’t done one in a while. So if you’re diggin their sound, get yourself over to their website and gather up what you can before they come to their senses. Thanks to Josh of Oak Lane for passing their music along to me. Seems I’m now a part of a huge resource of non-signed music and word is spreading. Good stuff.
