First off, I have to put it out there that it was a sad day yesterday for the world of music. Les Paul passed away. He was an amazing innovator for music. He created so many things that we take for granted today. He paved the way for people like me to have a better career.
Speaking of paving and weird connections, the city of Los Angeles has decided to start paving the street in front of my house today. Which odd since two months ago they said it would be last month. Then two days ago another letter came saying today. Nothing like picking the weekend I’m holding a large party. Nicely timed LA. The great thing is, the street did need repair and it will finally be done. Woo Hoo.
Maintenance is something that seems to get left to the wayside a lot. That surprises me. But then I understand it. It takes time to keep things up. With the mentality of a lot of people I’ve met it’s usually easier for them to make or purchase a cheaper product and toss it away when they’re done. For me, I tend to purchase things that I can use a long time. Taking care of what I buy is also something I like to do. I don’t know why I do that. I guess I don’t see the need to toss things unless they’re truly used up, broken, or useless.
So all I can ask of others is to do the same. Use what you buy to the fullest extent.
Lets get to the music. I’m going for a fallen friday for Good Charlotte with their song A New Beginning. I figure with new pavement in front of my house it’s a bit like a new beginning. The great thing is, they strip the pavement down and I’m guessing they end up recycling it at some point. At least I hope so. I think the opening of this song is interesting considering the style of music that they’re known for. One wouldn’t think a music box/orchestra thang would be a way to open a song for pop punk.
That’s one of the things I like about them. They have fun lyrics (though not in this little song) and take a bit of risk for the style. That’s a good thing. I suppose that’s my pun to link their name in – Good Charlotte.
