It’s a mystery to me. How did I come down with some sort of head cold that has now moved to my chest? I’m attempting to think back upon my recent ski trip to think of how and where it could have occurred. I’m kinda leaning on Saturday night where I went to see Gogol Bordello. I shook a lot of hands that night and was amongst a big crowd of strangers in a smallish club. Quite possibly it had to be then. Oh well. I believe I’m over the hump.
While I’m still taking it easy from doing a boatload of skiing and staying up very late, I’m bringing more music your way. Today’s selection came to me from a little PR bird that said I needed to check out a group called Parlour Steps. What struck me right off the bat is the vibe. I thought immediately of things like Talking Heads meets The Killers mixed with something like Blondie. Don’t ask why. I did and that’s all I’m gonna say on it.
I like the swingy march thing going on with the drums. I like the call and response going on between the lead male and female vocals. It’s cool. I know that having a band like that could lead to some real interesting story type songs where you can bounce different viewpoints in the same song off one person to the other. Not something easily done with a single lead vocalist. I think that’s cool. I expect that Parlour Steps isn’t on your radar yet, but if you dig a slightly thoughtful and an eclectic artistic thing then you’ve got to stop right here and explore more of their sound.
Hope you’re well, I hope to be back on top of things very soon.
