Dorian finished his first entire walk on a leash today. In case you don’t know that’s my new dog. I’ve had him out for a couple of walks but they weren’t on a leash as he would end up sitting or laying down instead of walking on the leash. However this morning, though still hesitant, he walked around the neighborhood with much less coaxing. He still stopped a few times to sit and wait, but ended up completing the walk with me leading him on the leash.
Such bizarre information for me to start a blog post with. It’s a music site and I’m here writing about the trials of a dog owner. As I’ve recently written, it’s really quite amazing the difference in how people react when you have a pet. Especially a new one. I had to run around town yesterday for most of the day and I brought Dorian along. It started with a hair cut. The hair dresser and the other employees at the salon were going gaga over him. Then I had a meeting about some business stuff. The lady melted and became a lot easier to deal with with Dorian around. Another business meeting after that resulted in the same thing with the guy whom I was meeting with.
I’m coming across very few people who can resist a dog at the moment.
Even at my show the other night, people were asking to see pictures of Dorian. It’s like music takes the back seat. People already know that I do that. 🙂
I had a mind to write about something different this morning, but obviously in my head it must not be worth the effort to put words to it anymore. I wouldn’t say that I’m heeding advice of a new friend but more or less no longer ignoring the writing on the wall.
Back to walking… Chris Isaak has a tune about going somewhere for a walk. Since Dorian was doing a little searching while walking and the song talks about searching around a bit while walking, that’s where I’m making my connection. The song slowly builds all the way thru the tune. Beginning with a hopping guitar riff that has some rockabilly sensibility to it. Drums kick in and keep that swinging vibe to help propel the guitar as it changes it’s vibe. Enter the rest of the band and add Chris on top with a vocal that has a bit of desperation to it and it digs into your soul.
I like the way they add a distorted slide guitar into the background of the chorus. It happens when Chris gets really intense in the vocal. A great little spicing of sound if you ask me. Brings the song up the notch it needs. Then it closes out with a little solo and leaves you wanting more.
Don’t have Chris, then it’s best you go purchase him if you love it!
