Could it be a sad day? Some music died recently. That’s sad. A hit songwriter Paul Davis has passed away. But age is inevitable still. Kind of a downer way to start a post eh? Well, we are listening to a bluesy jazz type thing so it’s along the lines. Its got a big more swing to the rhythm though…
Before I get to the tune, I’d like to think for a moment on the title of the CD and what it made me think of when I coupled it with song. Evil Monkey Man and Terrible Thing. What does it make you think of? The first person that popped into my head was George W. Bush. Then came Dick Cheney. I’m not sure it’s a good thing that politics and certain politicians instantly come to mind when the words evil, monkey, and terrible are grouped together.
Upon hearing the song, I then thought to myself, self… Do you think George W. Bush or Dick Cheney actually think to themselves as they do certain things – I’m doing something terrible? Seriously, don’t you think ignoring the constitution, destroying freedom, and killing the economy give them any pause? My guess is no.
I do think George, and Dick ought to be ashamed of themselves. If there is any shred of decency in the world they would be strapped down and forced to listen to a song like David’s where they can be told over and over they’ve done a terrible thing. Hell, I’d even throw in Chris Issak’s Bad Bad Thing to go with it. Maybe it would ooze some sense into their brains.
David has a real cool swinging bluesy jazzy thing going on. I additionally like the fact that his voice is fitting to the music. That’s a good thing. If nothing else its and essential part to jazz. There is no way my voice would work for jazz, at least not in a commercial sense. Likely the reason I don’t write any. I leave to cats like David who have a much more appropriate voice for it.
While I don’t think you’d do something terrible, how about leaving a little note of something terrible you’ve done? The only thing it shouldn’t be, is how you ripped David off. No, I hope you’d support the art by remaining legal with your copy.
