Last night’s use of the laptop running MainStage went really well. The situation for the performance was less than ideal, it’s not a venue that I particularly care for. But as a test run for the software and the amp modeling it worked like a charm. It was quick and easy to setup and of course it was ridiculously light compared to the weight of my full blown amp.
I’m happy to say that I think I’m going to dig the switch to using a laptop for my live rig. Did those words really come out of my fingers and type that?!?
Yes, they did. Wow. Me, the tone freak, saying that I don’t mind the use of a laptop and software for playing guitar in a live setting. All I can say is wow. It’s definitely a different perspective. I still love using a real amp. As I said yesterday, it’s a matter of real speakers moving air.
Speaking of gaining new perspectives…
The song you’re hearing right now at Single of the Day is definitely something of a new sound. Rap meets Bluegrass. The name of the band says it all – Ganstagrass. That has to be one of the most original things I’ve heard of in quite a while. Last great description I heard was Hillbilly Flamenco. Ganstagrass is exactly that. A new sound combined at of two that about as far apart as you can get. Mixed together it’s a flavor that is sure to piss off bluegrass purists, as much as it will piss off rap purists. However, these two have either smartly made a new genre, or stumbled into greatness.
Do yourself a favor and pick this one up. It’s stewpid cool.
