There’s nothing like being in the middle of a couple of projects, especially one where you house is being shifted about for fixes and you’ve got stuff out of the house waiting for things to get done when all of a sudden, here comes the rain. [damn that was one long possible run-on sentence]. Beyond that I’m in the midst of finishing up some music stuff and starting to do some research. Of course I spent a good deal of yesterday in the studio working on a funk tune with my co-writer Jesse Stern. An amazing bassist of orders of magnitude in funk and other things.
Jesse and I are nearly finished with an entire CD of funk music. That’s a good place to be. He even mentioned it yesterday, that he’s happy that I’ve been so consistent at getting this done. One has to be, otherwise nothing would get done.
** beep, beep, bada beep beep… this just in off the phone network… **
Seems a song I co-wrote earlier this year for a major publisher has come back in preliminary reports as out licensing the rest of the catalog it’s with. In the 6 CD set it’s licensed 1/9th of the licenses. That’s a huge proportion out of 60 songs. Awesome news!
** and this concludes the instant news portion of this blog post. beep, beep, bada beep beep… **
I was to have two co-writing sessions today. Was in meaning that one co-writer had to cancel as he woke up this morning at 5 am to a sore throat and feeling sick. This will give me some time to make some much needed phone calls later this morning. Then I can spend some time putting some ideas together for some of my own tunes. Before I get ready for another writing session this evening with a new co-writer.
Ok, time for music…
I’m listening to a band out of Iceland today. For A Minor Reflection <- That's the name, not a statement by me. They draw comparisons to: Explosions in the Sky, Sigur Rós, Mogwai, Caspian, Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Hell even Sigur Rós has said that they out Mogwai. Not exactly sure what that means, but it can't be bad. As I'm typing this I'm listening to several tracks over and over again. I'm really enjoying the sonic nature of what they're doing. I'm also amazed at how the music is holding my attention despite a lack of lyrics. There's so much happening in terms of the texture it's great. For the song Dansi Dans I'm really liking the perpetual vibe of the piano riff. It's spritely and fun. The morphing of sections is great. Really feels like there is some sort of journey going on and I want to be a part of it. In a second listen, I get the feeling that I'd be hearing songs like this in something like the movie 28 Days at the very end when all the hardship feels like it's been overcome or something. Definitely go explore their music, you won't be disappointed.
