Yesterday was a decent day. I spent time baking bread. Yes, I did, a musician that cooks. Made some french bread for the first time. Then I tried out a recipe from the book Fast Food by Gordon Ramsay. I don’t know a lot about Gordon Ramsay, but I will say that I’ve seen a few video clips of him on the internet and his ability to create a good meal in short order is impressive. Not sure how my mom figured to give me his book Fast Food.
I tried a little recipe for lamb and peas and it was extremely good. Surprisingly fast too. 20 minutes. Not bad at all. Probably would have taken me roughly 15 minutes to hop in a car drive to somewhere like Wendy’s and get a burger. So in 5 minutes more I had a much better meal that tasted great. Complimented very well by my french bread too. Go Gordon Ramsay. Additionally I’m learning some new cooking terms that Gordon Ramsay unfortunately seems to take for granted in his book. Always good to learn.
Afterwards I went with a buddy to see Tropic Thunder. I’m not a huge fan of Ben Stiller, but I do like Robert Downey Jr. and Jack Black. The movie started out pretty funny with weird trailers for phony movies. Then it kicks into an extravaganza of cheap effects and moments that were laugh out loud funny. Tropic Thunder is probably a good transition for Ben Stiller. He ought to think about being behind the camera a bit more often and a little less often in front of it.
Robert Downey Jr. played his part beautifully. Extremely funny. Even better was all the star studded cast like Tom Cruise, Matthew McConaughey, Tobey McGuire and a slew of others. Great stuff. The amazing thing is my buddy was so tired he slept thru most of the movie. He was the one buggin me to go. Go figure. I can’t imagine with all the screaming, laughing, yelling and explosions that someone could sleep thru a movie like that. Overall, Tropic Thunder was funny. Great movie – No.
On to today. Running like mad to accomplish probably way to many things before a dinner with a friend. Thus I’m going to be calling for a miracle to get it all done. Happily, there are several miracle songs out there. This is my pick for today. Vertical Horizon. I’ve featured them hear before. I’ve featured ex members of them before too.
It’s a bit sombre. But hey, I need to feel a little relaxed and groovy so I don’t blow a gasket attempting to get everything done. How about you? Lots to do for a Monday?
