I heard a great statement that was retweeted the other day. Or maybe it was my friend Derek Sivers that came up with the quote. It was something to this effect…
If you’re out to a party and you get back at like 1:30 in the morning and want to get back into your work, that means you really love your work. Or something like that.
I think he’s right. I know I normally will come back from something and head right back into the studio. It’s sorta like my solace to be sitting there and creating something musical. Music is like work. The difference is the schedule is entirely different from most jobs. But I revel in it. A recent dinner with Derek actually had him telling me how much he admires the dedication I have with music. I can’t explain it.
Which is primarily what I did last night even. I went to see a flick with my buddy. Up until I left for the movie I was working on a mix for a song. When I got back from the movie I was back to working on the song. It takes time to create great stuff. I don’t skimp on that.
Which is what I can hear in today’s selection by Eoin Harrington, O Holy Night. It’s very well put together. There’s a really good flow. The really cool factor going on here is that he’s switch between english and what I’m guessing is gaelic or something. The switches are so seamless that it takes a moment to realize a different language is being sung.
The acoustic guitars a powerful here. The percussion is great. The vocal is nice a smooth. The melody is bordering on familiar. The vibe feels Christmas too. Perfect for this time of year. Go get Eoin now. Everyone can use more holiday music.
