I caught a snippet of Adam Corolla this morning talking about the fact that there should be differences between men and women. Then the conversation turned to greed and pharmaceuticals. On the part about the differences between men and women, I have to agree with him. There needs to be that defining line. Men need to be men and take the position of making decisions. I know it works out better when I take that position of making decisions – though being mindful of changes if necessary.
On the subject of greed and pharmaceuticals, there’s an issue. Adam honestly believes that big pharma wants to cure diseases. That allowing them huge profits and grants for millions and billions of dollars leads them to researching for cures. Unfortunately his utopian view on that isn’t reality. Can greed be good? Yes it can. But when you tie your profit and greed to the need of people continually using your product – well, then it’s hard to conclude you want to cure them.
Healthcare is going to go back up on the block now that a balance of power has shifted in American politics. It’s unfortunate that we don’t have a more eastern view of medicine. I’m aware that there is a country where the doctor is paid when you are in good health. Mostly because that means he’s giving you sound advice to stay healthy. When you get ill, the doctor is no longer being paid because he is not doing his job well enough. Thus he has to work hard to get you cured so that he can be paid again. That’s a much more altruistic view of medicine. One that happens to make a lot more sense.
Is there a benefit to western medicine? Yup. I’d take a western style surgery for broken bones and ligaments any day. When it comes to staying healthy aside from that, the idea of the synthetic drugs are what tend to exacerbate problems because of side effects. Then it turns into a vicious cycle that spirals down when one starts to take a drug to alleviate a symptom rather than finding the root of the cause and curing it.
Poor Adam.
I’ve got to get ready and head out to the Masterchef audition. Here’s a little song I wrote. Enjoy it and make sure you get you’re own copy – provided you’re a Giant’s fan. Though, if you’re a fan of any major sporting team, it’s very likely there’s a version of it for your team. Go get it!
