What is it about human misfortune that causes people to want to slow down and take a look? Does it have something to do with needing to feel better about oneself? In Los Angeles it can create a real discourse in the use of the freeways. There can be a little accident on the opposite side of the freeway and yet people will still slow down to take a look, which in turn causes traffic to build up on a side that hasn’t had an accident.
I think the same can be said for people who want to see their friends happy. If the person is single and hasn’t found someone they really fall for, friends will give them support and either tell them everything is ok or possibly even set them up with someone they know. It’s when a relationship goes wrong or is overly one sided where people will want all the juicy details.
It’s bizarre.
When you’re the person going thru it, you definitely want support. But I think sometimes you have to make those decisions on your own with how to deal with things.
One thing I’ve noticed for me is that I’m a sounding board for a lot of friends. Generally I don’t mind it. But there is a friend whom it’s difficult to want to be friends with, where I don’t wish to be the sounding board any more. Not that I don’t like the person. Quite the opposite, I like them too much and it is a one-sided friendship where it’s all take and no give. It’s that type of thing where I have to head my own observation and actually say see ya later, don’t contact me anymore. It’s tough.
Enter Chris Issak with a tune called The End of Everything. It’s a little darker of a title than I really intended, but it sums up how things can come to an end and it’s time to move on. A very somber tune. With Chris’ haunting vocals floating over the top. It really sums up the title in the vibe of the music. You know right from the get go that the music feels like something that says it’s the end.
We all get that feeling once in a while and it’s a perfect song for expressing it. It’s something I would put on a mix tape/CD/iMix if it involved someone I no longer planned on seeing but cared about. Though I don’t make mix tapes/CDs so I’ll leave it at that.
Don’t rubberneck, it’s time to move on.
