Returning from the haze. Yesterday got spent doing a bunch of stuff around the house. Cleaning up. Doing the wash. Changing oil. Reading. Then a buddy called to take in a movie. So we went and enjoyed Role Models and Soul Men. Afterwards I wrote a quick little tune for fun. Which is nice to do after lots and lots of songs that I do for the pursuit of a living. Pretty chill day. Gave me some time to get my brain back.
Everyone needs a day or two here and there to recharge.
One interesting thing I’ve been hearing, over the weekend and even today in the news, is that the people and leaders around the world are breathing a sigh of relief and feeling good about America again. Amazing how much the image of a leader can tarnish an entire nation. In the grand scheme of time and history the reign of king George W. Bush, the last 8 years feel like a car crash that we have to recover from.
In talking with all the peeps I was out hanging with friday and saturday it was interesting to get their reaction. It’s essentially a first hand account. They too were happy that America decided to hit a different path. This is a good thing. Maybe the world will breath a sigh of relief.
The idea of being in a car crash doesn’t excite a lot of people (unless they’re a stunt guy doing for a movie or something). It can be a traumatic or devastating experience. Fortunately I’ve only been privy to two so far. One wasn’t much of anything. The other was the bus accident coming back from a tour. Interestingly enough it was like slow motion. What triggers in the brain to cause time to either slow down, speed up, or disappear?
That is the subject of today’s Single of the Day from Mobile. A band out of canada. I’d love to be able to tell you a bit more about them, but there is no bio on their website. C’est La Vie. What I do know is that all the songs I’ve experienced by them on Tales From The City are pretty heavy. This particular song Slow Motion Car Crash makes me think of a modern day Pink Floyd type thing. Mind you not all the songs make me think that.
The bonus of the album is that it all has a similar quality, but each song has a different element to it. Thus I hear different influences to each song where each is filtered thru the eyes of Mobile. That’s what I find to be true artistic vision. Being able to do different things and yet retain a common sound.
What I can find on their website is an upcoming show they have opening for Chris Cornell. That’s pretty darn hip in my book. I like Chris. Mobile looks like they’ve got their live show together from the video clip I saw on youTube. Based on the music, I would almost think they’d go way more cinematic in their stage approach. Though that may only be a money issue. They certainly have the music with the vibe to make a very cerebral stage show. Don’t ya think?
How are you taking it in? Have you breathed a sigh of relief? Has America returned to cool?
