It’s official. I’m now a troublemaker of the terrorist kind. This morning I was up extremely early to hop a flight. Apparently the airline marked me as needing one of those extra cautionary body searches. Before I get to that, lets back up a bit. I got to the airport with plenty of time to spare. I walk up to one of the handy dandy automated checkin machines. I punch in the confirmation code and I’m asked to swipe some ID. The machine says, nope – go talk to a ticket agent.
Lovely.
Off to a queue where I’m put in a special needs line. Talk about the queue from hell. I had one person in front of me. It took that agent and that person literally 35 minutes to deal with whatever their problem was. Thus I’m now getting agitated as the “normal” queue has gone thru a very lengthy group of people several times over while I’m stuck in some dumb hellhole going nuts because I’m being pushed to possibly missing the flight.
To make the time even more fun I get my boarding pass and go get in the TSA security check queue. I’m then shuffled from one queue to another and of course what happens when I get shuffled to a new queue. I’m put right behind the time wasting fools from the ticket counter. I’m absolutely amazed at how difficult some people find following directions is.
Eventually I get thru the metal detector only to be pulled aside with the mention that I’ve been flagged for additional screening for being a possible terrorist. ARGH. So I stand there for about 15 minutes waiting for the “male” agent who is to give me a pat down. He finally shows up after some other agent had started wiping some sort of baby wipe on my shoes, my bag, and my laptop. Each one went into some contraption that I suppose determines if I’m terrorist carrying some sort of bomb making residue.
Eventually I made it thru the screening and was able to make it to my gate just on time. Whew, I’m sure glad I’m not a terrorist. That could have really been a problem attempting to get thru all of that.
Should I be like a normal American right now? Shall I blame it all on something? Can I sue for a violation of my right to freely travel? Ok, I’ll go ahead and blame it on the moon. That’s the best I can come up with. Which leads me to today’s pick.
It turns out a little over a year ago I had featured another Dan Reed tune. I wrote about doing a massive mountain bike undertaking that I was hoping to do either this year or next. Obviously some things prevented it from happening this year. However, next year it’s do or die. I will mountain bike from Canada to Mexico. It also lead to Dan contacting me after reading the blog and telling me he really would like to join me in the quest of that trek. I also know that my sister and likely one of her friends will also make the trip. I figure I actually want about 8 people to go on the trip. It’ll be one hell of an adventure. Including a videographer/photographer to capture a bunch of it.
Unfortunately Blame It On The Moon is not available via iTunes or other digital services. The CD is on Amazon. I would encourage you to pick up the whole CD. Additionally Dan Reed has a new CD called the Dictator. I’ve seen one of the videos for it already. I do think that I’ll be featuring it before too long here on Single of the Day.
Now go forth, be a troublemaker and put those TSA agents thru their paces and waste their time as much as they waste yours.
