Have you heard of Philippe Petit?
I hope you can think yes to that question. If not, there’s a movie coming out (this is why I know the name) called Man On Wire. It’s about a street performer by the name of Philippe Petit. What did Philippe Petit do in order to warrant a movie being made about him? He walked a tightrope between the two world trade center buildings back in the 70’s.
That’s right, Philippe Petit somehow managed to string cable between the two towers and walk on it. Downright incredible. Daring. Dangerous. How’s that for some D words?
There is a documentary releasing in early August and I’m really wanting to see it. I mean come on. What kind of person gets it in their head to walk on wire with no net 1,300 feet in the air – without a parachute? I’m fascinated. In a way it would be something that I would do – only I’m not into tightrope walking. The amount of preparation and planning that went into this feat is astounding. Six years!
It’s that movie about Philippe Petit that got me thinking about today’s song. I didn’t know if there would ever be a reason to chat this song up. But I found one. First, I’m really not sure how someone would come up with a concept for a song to be about a high wire walk, let alone being able to escape using such a device.
Maybe the song was specifically written for the Dare Devil movie and that would be a little better explanation. If not, maybe they had Philippe Petit in mind. Who knows. I do like the intensity of the song. It fits the intensity of the documentary I’m writing about. Power guitars, bass and drums. Pounding, grooving and moving. It’s a song that when it comes on on my iPod, I find myself wanting to blast along to the chorus. Don’t you?
Go get it now!
