I don’t think one can escape the news of the financial mess of America right now. I’m one of the mindset that I think the bailout is a bad idea. Despite the fact that it would likely hurt my livelihood. I think it’s time to let bad financial things die. Yes, I said it. Time to stop extending the hurt that has been created and building over the past 30 years.
In other news, a famous musician nearly burned to death in a plane crash last night. Travis Barker of Blink-182 fame narrowly escaped a crash in a private jet last night. 6 people aboard, 2 survived. The amazing thing is how did Travis and the DJ end up bouncing out of the plane as it was igniting and crashing? That’s an outright weird thing.
Scientists are creating a fake wood so that it will decompose faster in landfills. I’m not making that up. It’s bizarre. Especially when I much prefer real wood. I love the smell of fresh cut wood. I love the smell of trees growing in a forrest. Thus I think it’s a very necessary thing to replant for anything cut down. Don’t you?
Because I’m feeling eclectic via strange news, it’s time for an eclectic song for today. Swing That Tambourine comes to us by way of Kristoffer Ragnstam out of Sweden. There’s no real explanation that I can give about the song other than the fact that it’s a great thing to be weird once in a while. Kristoffer has a really cool groove going on in the song. It’s set up by several of the instruments. The funky snare groove combined with the pumping 8th note guitar riff that is accentuated by the higher chord accents of another guitar.
The song pulls out a lot of stops by recording the vocals with a haphazard approach of overdriving the vocal signal. I’m kinda getting a vibe of maybe the Rolling Stones abandon combined with maybe the sensibility of a group like Talking Heads and possibly the Police. Somehow Kristoffer rolls all of this into a package that really caught my ear.
Maybe it’s partially due to me hanging with a Dutch girl who has a very keen sense of cool in music as well. I don’t know. Like I said, it’s a good day to be feeling eclectic. Besides, if you can’t laugh at yourself and be silly once in a while, why are you here?
Support Kristoffer. Go Swing That Tambourine.
